Stimulus Checks: The States Releasing New Payments For May 2022
This month, people in four states in the United States will start getting stimulus payments to help them deal with the rising cost of living.
Prepaid gas and transportation cards will be distributed to Chicago residents, while some residents of California, Delaware, and Indiana will receive cash by check.
California
Eligible individuals will get a check for $600 or $1,200 in the first stimulus package, the Golden State Stimulus I (GSS 1), and another check for up to $1,100 in the second stimulus package, the Golden State Stimulus II (GSS II), thanks to the stimulus packages authorized last year. It’s important to keep in mind that GSS II could result in reduced payouts for some locals, depending on whether or not they were eligible for GSS I.
Assistance will be provided to low-income Californians who have filed their tax returns and paid their taxes before October 15, 2021. The second round of checks from the state’s Franchise Tax Board (FTB) is anticipated in June. Eligible residents may receive either stimulus payment but will need to provide proof of eligibility.
Colorado
Colorado residents can expect a tax refund of $400 for single filers or $800 for married couples filing jointly, depending on their filing status. Money is being returned to Coloradans as part of the TABOR (Taxpayer Bill of Rights) reimbursements. Actually, 5.8 million Coloradans will receive some sort of benefit from these funds.
Delaware
At the end of May, the state is expected to distribute a tax refund. Those who file as single individuals can get a $300 refund, while married couples filing jointly can expect $600. Residents who filed a personal income tax return in 2020 and those who did not have a sufficient income that year will both be eligible for rebates.
“This assistance is meant to relieve Delawareans experiencing higher prices at the grocery store and gas pump,” the government said. By the end of May 2022, the State of Delaware hopes to have issued $300 one-time rebate checks to eligible taxpayers.

Indiana
Residents who submitted their taxes in the state prior to January 3, 2022, will receive a tax refund. Those who qualify as single individuals will receive $75, while married couples would receive $125. Direct payments will be made to those who included their bank information with their 2021 tax filings, but printed checks won’t be issued until July or August. Payments from the excess of $3.9 billion will begin in May and continue through the summer, helping an estimated 4.3 million people in Indiana.
