Lily Peters was strangled and sexually assaulted by 14-year-old
Authorities in Wisconsin announced on Wednesday that a 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder and sexual assault of 10-year-old Lily Peters. An unnamed juvenile correctional institution in Wisconsin allowed the youngster to attend at his hearing in Chippewa County via video conference. The judge set him bail at $1 million cash.
Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell said that the defendant “punched the woman in the stomach, knocked her to the ground, effectively strangled her, before strangling her to the point of death,” before sexually assaulting her.
Newell argued before Juge Benjamin Lane that the youth was a danger to the community because of the alarming remarks he made to police, thus he urged that he be held on a high bond. Despite the child’s lawyers’ request for a $100,000 cash bail, Lane did not grant it. The judge banned the kid from having any firearms and from having any unsupervised contact with children, with the exception of his brothers.

Early autopsy findings indicated that Peters died from a combination of strangling and blunt force injuries. The autopsy revealed a homicide, according to Chippewa County Coroner Ronald Patten, and he expects to hear back from toxicology in four to six weeks.
On Wednesday, a judge ordered the juvenile detained in connection with Lily’s death to be jailed on $1 million bond after he appeared in court by video. The youngster is only known by his initials, CPB, as his name has not been made public.

After Michael Cohen, the suspect’s attorney requested and received approval for a court assignment substitute on September 21st, he was assigned to Judge Gibbs. As stated in the paperwork submitted to the court on September 21st, no explanation was provided as to why this was being sought. Wis. Stat. 970.20, which was mentioned in the pleading, states that a defendant has the right to seek one judicial replacement.

In 2016, then-governor Scott Walker appointed Gibbs to the Chippewa County Circuit Court. Since formal charges were brought in April, Branch 3 of the Chippewa County Circuit Court was presided over by Benjamin Lane. When it comes to Branch 1, Gibbs is the judge in charge.
The suspect is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of Iliana “Lily” Peters, 10, as well as first-degree sexual assault with serious bodily damage and first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. The maximum penalty for two of the three offences is life in prison.
