Travis Ash, the sheriff of Baker County, and Lt. Downing were at the accident scene. Off-duty, they went fishing on the Snake River. A plane’s engine was reportedly heard just before 10:00 a.m., followed by a loud “boom.”
They glanced up just in time to see the plane crashing. When they heard of the incident, they sent a distress signal and set out to find the spot on a hill above the Idaho Power complex.
