Xbox consoles get Discord voice chat in new update
Today’s Xbox Wire update came as a surprise, but it confirmed the arrival of a highly requested feature for Xbox consoles.
Over the past few years, Discord’s popularity has skyrocketed, and it is now universally accepted as the social hub and primary communication platform for the video game industry.

Xbox Consoles Get Discord Voice Chat
Due to its extensive feature set, lightning-fast performance, and simple usability, the service already enjoys millions of monthly active users and is rapidly expanding its market dominance.
Therefore, voice chat on Xbox has become less popular recently. Discord’s cross-platform nature has led me to prefer using it for voice communications on my phone or computer, even when I’m playing on my Xbox. The Xbox Game Bar and the Xbox app on PC both support cross-platform voice chat, but many players either aren’t aware of this feature or would rather use Discord because they probably already have it installed and ready to go.
In the beginning, the update will only be available to a small subset of Xbox Insiders. In order to use it, players must go to the Party tab on their Xbox controller and then select “Try Discord Voice,” which will launch a QR code-based account linking flow viewable on a mobile device.
Once your accounts are connected, you can use the Discord mobile app to transmit voice channels from your Xbox console. Whether or not you’ll be able to join from an Xbox device is still up in the air, but rest assured that we’ll do our best to get our hands on it as soon as possible and give you a thorough rundown of how it functions.
This is an intriguing turn of events, considering that Microsoft was rumored to be in acquisition talks with Discord a few months ago. Xbox’s “Club” community features have largely become a wasteland of spam. Users generally flock to Discord for sharing content and building communities with friends, so Microsoft’s integration with Discord may indicate a wider partnership.
