Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Release Date Status CONFIRMED By HBO?
The second season of Our Flag Means Death has yet to be announced. And fans aren’t happy.
The decision comes as a shock, given the outpouring of support the show has received on social media and the expanding popularity of other HBO Max content.
By the end of April, the show had apparently topped Parrot Analytics’ weekly list of most-watched shows for five weeks in a row. Even the show’s creator, David Jenkins, admits he has no idea why a second season has yet to be officially announced.
According to Jenkins in an interview with The Los Angeles Times in early April, “It’s a tough one to not pick up on after what happened at the end of it.”

“I hope they figure it out. I hope they want to do more. I know everyone on the show wants to.”
Taika Waititi (Blackbeard and executive producer of the series, as well as director of the pilot) said in the same interview, “I don’t know anything. I just think that they should because it makes sense. Also, I need to know what happens next. [Laughs]. ”
Even though the wait will be excruciating, the cast and crew of the hit show have hinted at what they’d like to see if it gets renewed. Everything we know thus far regarding the second season of Our Flag Means Death can be found here.
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Release Date
Not a word yet! Since the show hasn’t been renewed, there aren’t many specifics as to when production will resume and when will it air. Jenkins said to The Wrap in late April that despite the lack of new information, he’s getting impatient, too:
“It’s hard because of the analytics. And HBO Max. And then, you know, HBO, Max has gone through a lot. They’ve got this huge merger. People get scared for their jobs, rightfully so. And then their metrics are their own, they don’t really share. They don’t really share their viewership data even with us. It’s pretty unclear what’s going to happen.”
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Cancellation News
Fans are becoming increasingly concerned as the days stretch into weeks without any new information. On Twitter, one asked David Jenkins whether there was an emergency plan in place, and Jenkins responded that he had contingencies in place to give supporters the conclusion they deserved.
“First step would be to see if another streamer would like a hit show that’s become a cultural phenomenon,” Jenkins said (in an apparently deleted tweet that TV Insider quotes). “I’m told those are desirable.”
As for HBO Max, it’s still posting images from the show on its Twitter feed. And Jenkins isn’t done tweeting about the show’s fandom support either.

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Cast
Season 1 of “Our Flag Means Death” features Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet, Taika Waititi as Edward “Ed” Teach/Blackbeard, Samson Kayo as Oluwande, Vico Ortiz as Bonifacia “Jim” Jimenez, Kristian Nairn as Wee John Feeney, Nathan Foad as Lucius, and Con O’Neill as Con (Izzy Hands).
Along with that, Ewen Bremner, David Fane, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Guz Khan, and Claudia O’Doherty make up the rest of the cast (Mary Bonnet). If the show returns for a second season, most of the original cast members are expected to return.
Rory Kinnear and Boris McGiver, who played Father Bonnet and Captain Nigel and Admiral Chauncey Badminton, respectively, are no longer alive, although their characters might still appear in flashbacks in a possible second season.
Lucius, a figure played by Foad, is thrown overboard by Blackbeard. If a second season of the show is greenlit, it’s possible that fresh actors will join the cast.
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Plot
In interviews, Jenkins has stated that no plans for future seasons have been made, although he and the writers do know the “direction [they] want to take it.” When asked about the future of the show earlier this year, Jenkins said that the previous three episodes, in particular, were “really working.”
“It’s great, the stories are really popping. There are like four different stories going on there, which to my mind is like “Eughhh, it’s a lot!” But it flows really nicely. I think the fun for me in constructing this show is to have moments that are really violent because pirates are criminals, and moments that are really broad and genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, and then moments where we really just settle in and get to see people feel.”
“As long as all those three things are alternating, I’m happy. One might take precedence in an episode, but if all three are there, it’s healthy and it’s working.”
Waititi did mention to Decider that he had an issue with the season 2 costumes: “It was all that hair and beard, I felt like no one would talk to me,” Waititi stated. “It was so hot. I would sit in this little tent with the air conditioning on. I would feel lonely.”
