Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 2 Recap: Beware of the Wolves

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 2: To celebrate the premiere of Yellowstone Season 5 on Paramount Network, the network aired two episodes in rapid succession.

In the final of Sunday night’s two episodes, “The Sting of Wisdom,” the Duttons dealt with political wolves who opposed them and actual wolves who terrorised their livestock. Here’s a rundown of what transpired in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 2 in case you missed it or just want a reminder.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 2 Recap

The aftermath of the vehicle crash, which was left out of the first episode, is picked up in Yellowstone season 5 episode 2. We all know that Monica and Tate made it through, but sadly her unborn child did not.

Tate is the first to awaken in the automobile and use the safety cutters to free himself from his seatbelt. He is in pain and has trouble getting out of the automobile when he discovers his mother in a field. She tells her son to get a phone so she may call 911 while she continues to go through childbirth pains.

In Yellowstone season 5 episode 2, following the closing credits, we find Tate a few days later, with his broken arm cast. Monica is being consoled by Kayce, who was not present during the accident. The two men, father and son, leave the house together, with Kayce warning Tate that his mom might need some space. These events follow Kayce’s vision quest in Season 4 in which he “saw the end” of his love, and cast a pall over the entire family.

Now older, Carter has changed a lot since we last saw him at Yellowstone at the end of season one. His rapid growth was discussed throughout his brief appearance. You won’t find any rumours of a recasting if you do a quick Google search; actor Finn Little just outgrew the part since filming the last season in 2020.

Carter, Lloyd, and his new dad, Rip, go on a journey. John’s horse, which Carter was riding, was thrown off when it hit a badger hole, breaking Carter’s arm. Rip has an emotional moment as he realises he must put the horse down to end its pain.

Carter is forced to carry his saddle back to the stable, despite the fact that he has a broken arm.

State Business

John is being briefed on his responsibilities by Claire, the governor’s new assistant. To alleviate his workload, he has appointed Beth to the position of chief of staff. Her enthusiasm is low. John will not be “playing politics,” and he will only attend meetings if he believes they are essential to the realisation of his goal, as they discuss his schedule. Cancel anything named “alliance,” he says Claire.

Once they’ve finished talking, Beth will go looking for Jamie so she can verbally abuse him again. After Jamie battled with John, Beth admonished him, “Never oppose him again.” Jamie claims he is merely looking out for his and the ranch’s best interests. To humiliate Jamie and drive home the point that she “owns” him, Beth brings up the subject of their adoption. She tells him she feels more secure having him at home with her on the weekends.

Beware of the Wolves

While on a ride, the Yellowstone ranch men come upon a cow that has been attacked by wolves; nevertheless, Ryan does not believe that the wolves were able to kill the cow. Rip argues that it is moot, as they have now been exposed to beef and will enjoy it.

While Ryan insists that they involve livestock agents, Rip insists that they can handle the situation on their own. To introduce the new character Sarah Atwood, the earlier scene with the wolves serves as an ideal setup. Her name in 1883 was Claire Dutton, but it seems in Yellowstone she is not related to the Duttons and has no intention of being friends with them.

As of Yellowstone season 5 episode 2, Atwood will be working for Market Equities, making her an adversary of Beth’s. She takes over Beth’s assistant from Season 4 and proves to be as forthright as Beth was.

John takes the initiative by signing an executive order cancelling the lease for the Paradise Valley projects, including the proposed airport and ski resort, which is sure to anger Market Equities. Caroline Warner threatens to sue the state in reprisal for filing a cease and desist order. Sarah, while watching TV, observes Jamie’s hesitancy and makes a decision to go after him.

Later in the discussion, John announces that he’s planning to put the ranch into a conservation easement. Again, Beth isn’t happy with the news, telling him they’ll “have no movements,” meaning they can’t sell any land or build anything new.
