Yordan Alvarez Injury
This season, Alvarez, at age 25, is slashing at an incredible rate, making him a serious MVP candidate in the American League. 306/.405/.653 with 26 home runs, 60 RBI, and 57 runs, plus an MLB-leading 1.058 OPS.
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge leads the majors with 30 home runs, is a solid defender, and has contributed 66 runs and seven steals for the finest club in baseball.
The Cuban slugger has been Houston’s top hitter this year, and the Astros have been as dominant as usual, sitting atop the American League West by 12 games with a 55-29 record heading into Sunday’s action.
In 2019, Alvarez was the AL’s Rookie of the Year after hitting.313 with 27 home runs and 78 RBI. In 2020, he played in only two games due to injuries, but he came back the following year to hit.277 with a career-high 33 home runs, 104 RBI, and 92 runs.
He’s on track to smash his previous career highs this year. In addition, his worth has increased due to the fact that he has been used in the outfield more frequently than in previous seasons.
It was stated by Lerner that Alvarez would not be participating in the Home Run Derby or the All-Star Game on July 18 and 19, but the organization is keeping its fingers crossed that he will be ready to play on July 21 doubleheader against the Yankees.
Don’t like seeing a player leave a game unexpectedly at an odd time in the middle of the game with injury. Prayers up for Yordan Alvarez. Hope he’s ok.

While the loss of a player of Alvarez’s caliber for any length of time is certainly undesirable, the Astros have a comfortable division lead and can afford to take things slowly.
The Astros will need Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, and the rest of the lineup to step up in Alvarez’s absence.
