Succession Season 4: Season 3 of the critically acclaimed HBO series Succession ended last winter, and for many reasons, viewers were shocked. A season’s worth of stress and resentment between the family and their backers boiled over in an unexpected betrayal. It’s difficult to imagine how the show could (or should) progress after that shocking climax. There are still many unanswered mysteries, but in an odd way, this felt like a fitting conclusion to the story. The Roy saga, thankfully, will not be ending with Succession any time soon.
Succession is a darkly comedic drama series created by British writer Jesse Armstrong (The Thick of It, Peep Show, In the Loop) that follows media and entertainment mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox), patriarch of the wealthy and powerful Roy family and head of the massive conglomerate known as Waystar RoyCo, as he manages his global empire.
His four children, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Connor (Alan Ruck), are the continual thorns on his side. Each of them has made it clear that they believe they should be his heir. While the Roy children may believe they can outwit their senile father from episode to episode, Logan is always one step (or more) ahead of them.
As said before, the last chess move occurred in the stressful and unpredictable final moments of Season 3, when Logan’s former wife Caroline’s (Harriet Walter) wedding brought together the entire family in Italy. When we last left our heroes, Kendall had just come down from an overdose and was planning some revealing Instagram posts about Waystar RoyCo and his father’s business dealings; Connor was desperately trying to hold onto Willa (Justine Lupe), his perpetually uncomfortable girlfriend; and Roman and Shiv were attempting to prove that they were legitimate business forces to be reckoned with. Shiv’s hapless husband Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) was busy writing a “silly Forbes profile piece.” Unfortunately, Tom’s antics would end there.
Succession Season 4 Reminds Us Logan Roy Is Still In Charge
The trailer for Season 4 is as chaotic as its title suggests. Even yet, there is a great deal of interpretation required. In addition to the enigmatic score by Nicholas Britell, the film has the roaring sound of helicopters (a Roy signature) and the monologue of a cool, cynical Logan complaining that everyone is always turning against him. As he surveys the metropolis he calls home, he can’t help but feel like the real skyscraper. Everyone else is just a distraction who is too blinded by their own inflated sense of importance to realise who actually runs the show. I stand a full 100 feet tall. Pygmies, that’s what these folks are.
Many pictures of our favourite people are included. In one scene, Logan and his current inner circle—Tom, Greg (Nicholas Braun), Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron), Frank (Peter Friedman), Karl (David Rasche), and Kerry—deal with the fallout of a heated debate (Zoe Winters). With an “I’m surrounded by kids” expression on his face, Logan departs the room, doubting who he can trust once more.
The newly engaged Connor looks fairly high on the inclusion of his heartbroken siblings, after feeling ignored and belittled in the Season 3 finale. He goes as far as to act out an arrow shot and a perfect target hit. Wait, does he seriously consider them to be the Avengers? Laughingly, Connor declares that they are the Rebel Alliance, while Kendall gravely labels them the “New Gen Roys.” Perhaps if the succession doesn’t work out, they can create a band and use that embarrassing name.
The trailer doesn’t stick around long enough to explain much, but it does address the elephant in the room (800 pounds of betrayal): Tom. The son-in-law used to become nervous and put up a show around Shiv, but that may be passed. Since he began taking issues into his own hands and prioritising himself (instead of Shiv), he has seemed eerily at ease.
After taking a deep breath, he asks Shiv, “Do you want to talk about what happened?” If you look at Shiv’s death stare and see her hand on her hip, you can tell that she is becoming a little too heated to even consider it.
To be released in the spring of 2023, Succession Season 4 of the Emmy-winning series will once again be shot entirely in Norway. Dagmara Domiczky, Alexander Skarsgard, Arian Moayed, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Justin Kirk, Cherry Jones, Hope Davis, Juliana Canfield, and Stephen Root are just some of the guest performers and recurring characters that have been confirmed to return.
Succession Season 4 Release Window Set for Spring 2023
A debut trailer for the highly-anticipated new season of Succession has arrived online, one week after the first footage from the Succession Season 4 was released in an HBO sizzle reel. HBO (and HBO Max) has announced that the second season of Succession would premiere in the spring of 2023.
If you’re an Emmy-winning programme fan, this is good news, because Season 4’s release date has been all over the place due to the erratic scheduling of prior seasons. Season one premiered in June 2018, with season two arriving in August 2019. After a delay in production that was anticipated owing to the pandemic, Season 3 premiered in October 2021. The fourth season will be out soon, so fans won’t have to wait too long this time.

The series has been well-praised for its satirical black comedy plotline, which follows the heirs to the powerful Roy family as they fight to fill the void left by their father’s death. The show’s acidic language and Shakespearean themes of ambition, envy, and treachery have been particularly well-received by critics and viewers.
The third season concluded with arguably the biggest shock of the show thus far: the comical Tom Wambsgans was shown to be a traitor to Kendall Roy, his siblings, and even his wife. With the Roy family’s loyalties well defined (if they weren’t previously), Season 2 will focus on Logan Roy’s response to the failed rebellion and its aftermath.
Details from Succession Season 4 are teased in the trailer, and they include Logan selling Waystar Royco to Lukas Matsson against his children’s desires. In the first few seconds of the teaser, which was released before the season finale of House of the Dragon, Logan can be heard saying, “I’m 100 feet tall, these people are pygmies.” In addition, we witness “the new-gen Roys,” Ken, Shiv, and Roman, as they create a “rebel alliance,” probably against their father, as described by Connor, the eldest Roy brother.
