Hybrid Reborn: 2023 Prius Release Date
2023 Prius Release Date: Twenty-two years ago, a high-tech sedan rolled into the U.S. When Toyota first opened its dealerships, it innovated the car business. The 2023 Prius release date will be revealed later this year.
With its introduction in 2001, the Prius (which is Latin for “To Go Before”) ushered in a new generation of hybrid vehicles that combined an electric motor with a high-efficiency engine to increase fuel economy. The 2023 Prius release date has not been revealed yet.
Over twenty years later, this iconic model is ready to prove it again with the unveiling of the all-new 2023 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime at a launch event on the eve of the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show at the LA Convention Center. Below is every detail we know about the 2023 Prius release date.
2023 Prius Release Date
“As a company, we set our sights on developing a new Prius for the future, and our design and engineering teams really delivered,” said Toyota group vice president and general manager Dave Christ. “The weight of the Prius name is heavy – it carries with it the identity of an entire category of vehicle powertrain. We’re confident the all-new 2023 Prius and Prius Prime will continue this important legacy.”
Toyota has had its sights set on a future where hybrid-powered fuel efficiency is the norm ever since the first Prius hit the market. Over 82 million tonnes of CO2 have been kept out of the air thanks to the over 5 million Toyota hybrids sold in North America and the over 20 million sold worldwide.
With ten hybrids, two plug-in hybrids, the new bZ4X battery electric vehicle, and zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell technology Mirai, Toyota is committed to finding highly efficient and zero-emission solutions that fit the lifestyles of customers across the United States, and the Prius hybrid is a part of that lineup. The 2023 Prius will be the first Toyota vehicle to sport a new “Beyond Zero” badge, representing the company‘s global initiative to achieve carbon neutrality in its products, manufacturing, and other areas.
New information about the 2023 Prius release date, including its price, will be released later this year.
Sporty Yet Comfortable
The designers of the latest Prius set out to make a car with both functional and aesthetic appeal for modern buyers. The second-generation TNGA-C platform on which the 2023 Prius is built provides a low centre of gravity, decreased weight, and increased rigidity in comparison to the platform used in the previous generation. That’s the end result. With its wider track and lower seating position, the driver can feel both flexible and at ease.
The new Prius features a Japanese-designed interior and exterior that exude a minimalist, cutting-edge aesthetic. The new Prius has a lower roofline by 2 inches compared to the previous generation, giving it a more athletic appearance that is evoked in part by its slicing silhouette that suggests some aerodynamic flair. Towards the back, the car’s width increases by nearly an inch, giving it a sporty, cutting-edge appearance.
Prius is a high-performing vehicle because it was designed to be so. By increasing the output of the engine and the battery, the new hybrid system improves both fuel economy and driving performance. Electrified vehicles have a new kind of driving feel and accelerator response thanks to improvements made to the vehicle’s acceleration feel and handling.
A newly developed lithium-ion battery is housed in the floorboard behind the back seats, and a larger 2.0L engine powers the hybrid’s fifth-generation powertrain. Electronic All-Wheel Drive (AWD) systems, which use a motor to power the rear wheels, are now standard on AWD vehicles. This improves the vehicles’ steadiness off the line and on slick roads. The newly developed lithium-ion battery pack reduces size and weight while increasing output by 15% compared to the previous generation Nickel Metal battery. The 2023 Prius release date will be revealed later this year.

The third generation of Toyota’s standard safety system, TSS, will be included in every Prius sold beginning in 2023. This suite of active safety systems builds upon the features found in the first-generation Prius while adding several new ones. The following components make up this safety system:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist
- Automatic High Beams
- Proactive Driving Assist
Prius and the Toyota Safety Sense pack have been updated to include a brand-new feature called Proactive Driving Assist. When the system’s operating conditions are met, it uses the car’s camera and radar to perform light braking or steering into curves, or it maintains a safe distance from an approaching car, pedestrian, or bicycle. Because it functions differently, Pre-Collision System and Proactive Driving Assist are not interchangeable.
